Earthquake rocks Himachal; No loss of life or property
Shimla, Apr 3 (UNI) An earthquake of high intensity, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, shook several areas of Himachal Pradesh today, but no loss of life and property was reported from anywhere in the state, the Seismological Department said.
The tremors were felt at many places in the state and lasted about 35 seconds, forcing people to flee their homes into open places at 0906 hrs.
The Seismology Metro Laboratory at Kangra said the epicentre for today's earthquake was near Hindukush area in Afghanistan.
Kangra ADM A L Sharma said no loss of life and property has been reported from anywhere in the district due to the quake.
Kangra district of the state falls in the fifth category of the active seismic Zone.
