Congress worker alleges excesses by Zoramthanga's men

Aizawl, Apr 3 (UNI) In a startling revelation a resident of Champhai, on the Indo-Myanmar border, identified as T K Khaia today alleged that he had been kidnapped by Chief Minister Zoramthanga's armed campaigners during the 2003 assembly elections.

TK Khaia's declaration at a news conference at the Aizawl Press Club came close on the heels of two Zo Re-unification Organisation (Burma Front) leaders claim that they along with Manipur-based Zo Re-unification Organisation had campaigned for chief minister Zoramthanga in the Champhai constituency.

''I said I could not do that since I was a Congress worker. They threatened to take me away. I tried to resist, but since they had guns concealed under their overcoats, my wife, fearing for my life told me to follow them. So I did,'' Khaia said.

He however, added that since he was given 24-hour protection by Congress workers, he was safe.
