Ruling reserved on Siddaramaiah's privilege motion admissibility
Bangalore, Apr 2 (UNI) Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Krishna today reserved ruling on admitting a privilege motion, notice for which was given by former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader member Siddaramaiah on his illegal detention at Jayapura on March 31.
Mr Siddaramaiah, in his preliminary submission in the Assembly immediately after question hour, said he was illegally detained and his freedom of movement was curtailed by the police while he was making arrangements to lay a foundation stone for upgradation works of a primary health centre at Jayapura in his Chamundeshwari constituency on official invitation from the department concerned and local leaders.
He said the police, along with the JD (S) workers, had intentionally obstructed his movement. He accused the District Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police of being responsible for his detention without verifying the reasons.
Mr Siddaramaiah said the situation did not warrant his arrest and this amounted to privilege. He demanded the immediate suspension of the two officers and a high level inquiry into the incident.
Leader of the Opposition N Dharam Singh, senior Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge and Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj also supported Mr Siddaramaiah, saying that no chance should be given to the officials to behave in such a way and arrest elected representatives.
They demanded that the Government take suitable action by suspending the two officials.
