Maintain status-quo on JIPMER: BMS
Puducherry, Apr 2 (UNI) Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today reiterated that the status-quo on the centrally administered JIPMER must be maintained.
Addressing a press conference here, BMS All-India vice-president P T Rao said as many as 5,000 out-patients were being treated at the hospital and demanded to safeguard their rights.
He said when the issue cropped up five years back, 14 questions pertaining to JIPMER were raised in Parliament. He also alleged that the Bill introduced by Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramdoss had ignored these key questions.
Mr Rao also said special economic zones were unwarranted in the country as it would not provide employment. The exchequer had already incurred a loss to the tune of Rs 98,000 crore by way of providing concessions for SEZ all over the country, he added.
Volunteers of BMS held a demonstration in front of the Thattanchavady Industrial Estate demanding not to convert the Institute into an autonomous institution.
