Mah decides to crush sugarcane of farmers from border areas
Kolhapur, Apr 2 (UNI) Maharashtra Marketing Minister Harshwardhan Patil today said the state government has decided to crush sugarcane of farmers from Belgaum and Khanapur, in the Kolhapur district sugar factories.
Mr Patil told reporters at the government circuit house here, the decision has been taken to give justice to the sugarcane growing Marathi-speaking farmers from the border areas, whose sugarcane has not been lifted so far by the sugar factories in Karnataka.
He has received complaints that the sugar factories in Karnataka are purposefully neglecting the sugarcane crop of these farmers and not lifting it for crushing. Under any circumstances, the concerned farmers' sugarcane will be crushed here, Mr Patil pointed out.
There is about one lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane crop of these farmers, he added.
