Haryana signs MoU to strengthen economic and business ties

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) Montgomery County of Maryland, US, and Haryana Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen economic and business ties and develop relations for mutual benefit.

The MoU will help pursue, promote and expand joint business activities in the fields of trade, tourism, investments in life science, advance technology and education in both public and private sectors and the well-being of their inhabitants.

The MoU was signed by the Director of Department of Economics Development, American Community College of Montgomery County of Maryland, US, Dr Pradeep Ganguly and Haryana's Education Minister, Mr Phool Chand Mullana in the presence of Haryana Governor, Dr A R Kidwai and Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Haryana Bhawan here.

Welcoming the 8-member business delegation of Montgomery County of Maryland headed by Dr Pradeep Ganguly, the Haryana Governor, Dr A R Kidwai said that with the signing of the MoU, a lot of new developments will take place and would benefit the India and American Community College of Montgomery County of Maryland, US.

He said about 400 multi-national companies have already set up their ventures in India and out of this 100 multi-national companies were established only in Gurgaon in Haryana.

New jobs are generating in banks, insurance and pharma sectors, hence there is an urgent need to develop the vocational courses to meet the requirements of this sector, he said and added that India is emerging as major economic hub in the field of medicine and centre for research and development activities in the world.

He said India is the biggest producer of generic medicines in the world. This MoU will play a significant role in promoting the concept of community colleges in Haryana and as well as in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda stressed upon the need for qualitative changes in general education and technical education.

He said that to achieve this target, we have to change the mindset of the teachers by imparting them adequate training. This MoU will help in designing new courses and curriculam of courses.

He offered American Community College of Montgomery County of Maryland, US to set up their campus in the Rajiv Gandhi Education City being set up at Sonepat in Haryana.
