Retrenchment of Dul Hasti workers sparks protests

Jammu, Apr 1: Employees of Jai Parkash (JP) Associates, a company engaged in Dul Hasti Hydro Power Project at Kishtwar in Doda district, today launched a protest against the retrenchment of local workers by the management, a senior official said.

''Employees of JP Associates have launched a protest demonstration against the retrenchment of about 1100 workers after their contract has ended,'' SSP Doda Manohar Singh told UNI.

''An adequate police force has been deployed there to meet the situation, which is normal,'' he said.

The contract of JP Associates, the SSP said, is coming to an end as the work on Dul Hasti project has been almost completed.

The workers' union, however, alleged that no final payments were made to the employees by the management yet.
