Ahmedabad, Mar 31 (UNI) Chairman of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Vijaypat Singhania today said the Institute was yet to recieve any guidelines from the Centre on the admission of Other Backward Castes (OBCs) students for 2007, after the Supreme Court put a stay on the government order.

''We are still awaiting directions from the HRD Ministry. The IIM on its own cannot decide to give the OBC quota. Following the apex court order, we could land ourselves in a serious tangle if we go ahead with it. On the other hand, we could be charged with wrongful denial of admission as the process for admission has already begun,'' said the Chairman, while addressing a press conference soon after a meeting of the Board of Directors.

He, however, emphasised that admission process for 2007 batch would continue as per schedule.

He said since he took over reins of the IIM-A a day before, he could not say much on the issue.

However, IIM-A Director Bakul H Dholakia said the issue of quota came up during the Board meeting here today and several members had stated that the admission under the OBCs quota will amount to violation of the Supreme Court order, which had stayed the operation of quota through its interim order earlier.

He said the rules of admission for 2007 will be same as for 2006 and the reservations for SCs/STs would continue as the institute have been doing for the past 30 years subject to fresh directives by the apex court or the government.
