Maoists fail to loot police armoury: Afzal

Patna, Mar 31 (UNI) The Maoist attack on Riga police station in Sitamarhi was engineered to challenge the state authorities, said state Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah here today.

The motive behind the attack was to loot the police armoury but the extremists could not succeed in their mission due to alertness of the policemen, he added.

He said communication with Riga police station had been totally snapped but additional reinforcement had been moved there from adjoining areas.

He said the reinforcement, asked to rush to Riga, had been alerted for possible landmines, planted on the way.

The police station and the adjoing areas were being strategically surrounded, he added.

The Maoist attack was also aimed at looting a Bank in the area but they could not succeed.
