Guj Govt announces CID inquiry into poaching of lions in Gir
Junagadh (Gujarat), Mar 31 (UNI) The Gujarat government today announced a CID inquiry into the ''Rampant'' poaching of Asiatic Lions in the Gir Sanctury.
Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah told mediaperons here that the State Crime Investigation Department (CID) will launch a thorough probe into the sport in of poaching activities in Gir Forest in last several months.
Mr Shah said the forensic experts from Gujarat Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) will soon be sent to make a detailed survey of the spot and examine the of carcasses of three lions which were found yesterday by the officials by the State Forest Department.
However, the Minister denied that the investigation will be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Earlier, Deputy Conservator of Forest B L Shukla, talking to UNI, ruled out any international gang behind the incident.
Yesterday's incident was the second poaching incident in the past four weeks, in which six lions were killed by the poachers.
