Two including Sri Lankan convicted
Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) special court today sentenced two drug traffickers, including a Sri Lankan national, to ten-years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a heroin smuggling case of 2001.
Pronouncing the judgement, Additional Session Court Judge P N Deshmukh said accused Ramprasad, alias Bhairav Prasad Yadav, and Shahabuddin Mohammed Kamil (Sri Lankan) had committed an offence punishable under sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
A fine of Rs two lakhs were imposed on each of them. In case of default, they will have to undergo further RI for six months.
On February one, 2001, acting on a tip-off, the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) had raided the house of Yadav at Kurla in eastern suburbs and seized two kg of heroin in four seperate shopping bags.
During interrogation, Kamil confessed that he was in drug trafficking business for the last 17-18 years. He used to purchase drugs from Yadav and then sell it to Kamil.
A total of seven witnesses were examined in the case.
