Trinamool threatens Tata Motors: Minister denounces

Kolkata, Mar 30 (UNI) Taking a serious view of comment of Tata Motors' Managing Director Ravi Kants that nobody had the right to question selection of Singur for the small car project, the Trinamool Congress today threatened the company of "serious consequences".

" This is a highly provocative comment. Unless it is withdrawn, both Tata Motors and its officials will face the consequences, " Leader of the Opposition and Trinamool Congress General Secretary Partha Chatterjee said.

The Tata Motors captain said during an interactive session in the city yesterday that his company had decided to set up the small car plant at Singur judging from the business point of view and nobody had the right to right to question it.

Describing Mr Kant's comment as "uncalled for" and "insulting" to the people of Singur, Mr Chatterjee said the matter was before Calcutta High Court and did not warrant any such statement from anybody.

He also alleged that Tata Motors official was 'playing to the tune' of the CPI (M) and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, he warned that the Trinamool Congress would launch an "appropriate movement" against the company, if necessary.

Reacting to Mr Chatterjee's threatening, Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said the Trinamool leader's statement was "highly irresponsible" and against the interest of West Bengal.

" This is a highly irresponsible statement which is against the interests of the state. Such acts send wrong signals to investors, " he said.

Charging the Trinamool with maintaining a "double standard", Mr Sen said the acts of the party were completely against the promise of industrialisation it had made in the manifesto before the last Assembly election.

" This is most unfortunate that the Trinamool, which has promised industrialisation of West Bengal in its election manifesto, is opposing each and every industrial project in the state, " he said.
