TN House resolution urges UPA Govt for Parliament session on quota

Chennai, Mar 30 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly today unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre to immediately convene both Houses of Parliament to discuss the implications of Supreme Court order staying 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions.

Moving the resolution, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, on behalf of the House appealed to the Centre to take suitable steps to ensure the Apex Court order did not affect the oppressed backward class people in the country.

He said the Supreme Court's interim order violated the rights of Parliament and caused a setback to socially and educationally oppressed.

After Mr Karunanidhi read out the brief resolution and urged the members to extend their support, the House passed the resolution unanimously.

Members, including those belonging to the Opposition AIADMK, cutting across party lines, gave their full support to the resolution by thumping the desks.

Welcoming the resolution, PMK Floor Leader G K Mani said the court order was againts Parliamentary democracy. The PMK members, who were observing today as ''Black Day,'' came to the House wearing black shirts.
