Nandi Foundation for revival of Lift Irrigation schemes

Vijayawada, Mar 30 (UNI) Naandi Foundation a 'Not for Profit Trust' had taken up the revival of Lift Irrigation schemes in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Development Corporation.

A press release said the Foundation managed by Corporate giants and academicians like Dr K Anji Reddy, Anand Mahindra, Ramalinga Raju and Dr Isher Ahluwalia would ensure the revival of the scheme.

'Sir Ratan Tata Trust' and scores of small farmers' collectives had also assured 100 schemes for eight districts in the State.

The Foundation would take the initiative to provide better standard of living with an increased income and avoidance of migration for 34000 farmers.

As part of their programmes, the Foundation organised 'Naandi Rythu Mela' at Nandigama about 45 kms from here, in which over 1000 small and small and medium farmers mostly women paprticipated in the Mela.

Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Bank (APCOB) Chairman Vasantha Nageswara Rao, who participated as a chief guest in the mela lauded the performance of the Foundation.

Mr Rao urged the Foundation to assist the revival of other irrigation projects. APCOB had extended its support to the Foundation with a donation of Rs one crore, he added.

The Foundation was also concentrating on its activities in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattishgarh, Andamans, Nagaland and Rajasthan, besides Andhra Pradesh, the release added.
