Mizoram opposition criticised CM for bamboo industry
Aizawl, Mar 30 (UNI) Opposition Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) criticised Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga for the state's joint venture with Venus Bamboo Processing Industry.
The issue rocked the assembly yesterday following the statement of the Chief Minister that only state owned society Bamboo Development Agency(BDA) was holding a stake in the company and it has already invested Rs 907.50 lakh in the venture.
Contradicting the chief minister's account, ZNP legislator Andrew Lalherliana said besides 40 per cent share of the BDA, Kolkata-based S S Shah group of company, has 40 percent equity while Taiwan based Borki Machinery Company owned 20 per cent.
However, Mr Zoramthanga explained that the state government had been seeking ways to utilise its abundant supply of bamboo but faced difficulty because the state government did not possesse technical know-how for processing bamboo.
''We believe K K Shah is the only unit, which has know-how in bamboo technology in the country and since they had problems of raw material, we came to an agreement offering 40 percent of the share,'' Zoramthanga said.
