JD(U) attacks judiciary, asks govt not to implement anti quota order
New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) Launching a scathing attack on judiciary for the anti-OBC quota judgement, Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav today demanded that the government should not implement the interim order of the Supreme Court.
Terming the reasons given to stay the notification as ''unfortunate, unconstitutional and absurd,'' Mr Yadav said it has not only demolished the Constitution but also judiciary.
He also demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the ''recent socially negative judgements of judiciary and take concrete steps towards the formation of the National Judicial Commission and provide reservation to SC/ST and OBCs in judiciary.'' He said the benefit of reservation in higher educational institutions was extended to people who were already getting this benefit in the central and state government jobs and also in the educational institutions run by the state government.
''If the Supreme Court cannot stay the existing reservation benefit enjoyed by the same people, how can it stay the extension in another field?'' Pointing out that the court order said that the 1931 census could not be the basis for the reservation for OBCs because it was too old, he wondered why the court did not ask the government to undertake fresh caste census? If the government discontinued the caste based census after independence, it was the fault of the government and not of OBCs people, he said and asked ''Why has the court punished OBCs for the fault of the government? He demanded that the government should immediately hold a caste based census.
