Hunger Project invites entries for Sarojini Naidu Prize

Chennai, Mar 30 (UNI) The Hunger Project, an organisation committed to end hunger in India and develop leadership qualities in women elected to village panchayats, has called for entries from print journalists and electronic media for the Sarojini Naidu Prize 2007.

Addressing a press conference here today, The Hunger Project National Media Advisor Maalan said the prize, carrying a cash prize of Rs two lakh and a citation, is given to three print media journalists for their outstanding reporting on Women in Panchayati Raj in Hindi, English and other Indian languages category.

He said the organisation would also award a prize to one television channel for its outstanding coverage on Women in Panchayati Raj and the role they played in bringing education to every child in their villages.

The jury, comprising eminent personalities like Institute of Social Sciences Director George Mathew, Ministry of Panchayati Raj Secretary Meenakshi Dutta Ghosh, actor and social activist Shabana Azmi and Outlook Saptahik Editor Alok Mehta, would select the prize- winning entries.

For print journalists, the articles should have been published between July 15, 2006 and July 15, 2007 and for electronic media, the film should have been broadcast between July 15, 2006 and August 15, 2007.

All entries should reach The Hunger Project's office in Delhi or any of its state by July 15, 2007.
