Govt to streamline Chennai traffic for industrial growth

Chennai, Mar 30: The Tamil Nadu Government would chalk out a new five-year comprehensive plan to streamline the city traffic for the benefit of IT and industrial sectors here.

Talking to newspersons here today Union Minister for Communications and IT Dayanidhi Maran said the state government would form a special committee, within couple of weeks, to chalk out a new plan for the regulation of traffic, which is conjested at the moment especially in the IT corridor area.

''This committee would seek various plans with the international traffic experts to form a new traffic rules especially in the busy areas of the city'', he added.

He also called upon the industry circle to pitch in with efforts to improve traffic management in Chennai.

''Noting that the city was 'getting into a traffic mess' and was in need of initiatives to streamline it, including more signals and signage boards'', Mr Maran said.

The government would also push for development along the lines of townships around the IT Parks in order to reduce the traffic congestion and infrastructure overload in the cities.
