Delhiites reel under scorching heat as mercury jumps to 37.7 Deg C
New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) Delhiites continued to reel under scorching summer heat for the second consecutive day today, with the mercury in the capital rising sharply to 37.7 degrees' Celsius.
The maximum temperature rose to 37.7 degrees C, from 35.5 degrees Celsius yesterday. The minimum also rose to 19.4 degrees C, from 18.4 degrees C yesterday.
While the maximum temperature was five degrees above normal, the minimum was two degrees above normal.
Weathermen attribute the scorching heat in Delhi since Wednesday to the abatement of the intensity of the Northwesterly winds which have, over the last week, brought coolness to the weather here.
The scorching heat in Delhi could intensify in the coming 24 hours with the weathermen forecasting a rise in day temperatures by about two degree C in Northwest Indian plains during the next 24 hours.
Some relief could, however, be in offing towards the weekend with the weather office forecasting rain or thundershowers over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh and north Haryana on Sunday.
Consequently, there was likely to be a fall in day temperatures from Sunday onwards.
The met office has forecast a sunny day in Delhi during the next 24 hours with the likelihood of day temperatures rising to 38 degrees C tomorrow. It was also forecast a rise in minimum temperature to 20 degrees C tomorrow.
