CAG finds Rs 189.69 crore irregularities

Hyderabad, Mar 30 (UNI) The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has found irregularities to the tune of Rs 189.69 crore in Andhra Pradesh during the fiscal 2005-06.

''At the end of March 2006 uncollected revenue in sales tax, excise duties, land revenue, motor vehicles tax, stamp duty and registration fees, purchase tax on sugarcane and taxes and duties on electricity amounted to Rs 5,277.10 crore, of which Rs 2,151.36 crore was pending for more than five years, the CAG said in its report which was tabled in the State Assembly today.

The CAG noted that tax on works contracts amounting to Rs 14.03 crore was not levied or short levied in 128 cases and incorrect exemption of turnover of Rs 33.84 crore resulted in short levy of tax of Rs 3.10 crore in 29 cases.

Incentive of Rs 2.52 crore availed by six industrial units which stopped production during the period of availment of exemption had been recovered, it observed, adding that incorrect exemption of turnover of Rs 33.84 crore resulted in short levy of tax of Rs 3.10 crore in 29 cases.

The CAG had found that Rs 65.83 lakh was debited to sales tax incentive, instead of Rs 7.90 crore resulting in short debit to the tax incentive by Rs 7.24 crore.
