Buddhadeb to inaugurate 'Muktadhara' for promoting Bengali culture

New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya will inaugurate ''Muktadhara'' building of Bengal Sanskriti Bhawan Trust on Sunday aimed at promoting the Bengali language and culture in the national capital and northern parts of the country.

The building is a joint effort of the Bengal Government and Bengal Association.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Bengal Association General Secretary Amaresh Ganguli said this would work as the ''window of Bengal in the national capital''.

He said the building was named by the Chief Minister and was built at an estimated cost of Rs 2.70 crores of which Rs 1.8 crore was extended by the Bengal Government and another Rs 50 lakhs from MPLAD funds of Rajya Sabha member Mrinal Sen. A Central grant of Rs 10.50 lakhs was also given apart from individual donations.

The General Secretary said Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee would preside over the inaugural function and Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit would be the guest of honour.

''This will usher in a new begining for propagating the Bengali language and literature, art and culture in the national capital and a humble step towards promoting amity and cooperation with people of other languages and culture encouraging the cause of national integration,'' he added.
