Apang seeks Centre's help to settle boundary dispute
Itanagar, Mar 30 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang has urged UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to persuade the Asom government to amicably settle the dispute over land at the 2000 mw Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric project at Gerukamukh being executed by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
Mr Apang, who called on Sonia Gandhi recently at the national capital while stating that fraternal relationship between the two states was centuries old, sought her intervention to bring the two sides on the negotiable table, official sources informed here today.
The chief minister said that since the Congress party was in power in both the states, it was a golden opportunity to solve the dispute over the power project and also border dispute. Pointing out that his counterpart Tarun Gogoi, was ''apparently not serious'' about redressing the grievances of Arunachal Pradesh, Mr Apang stated that he(Gogoi) took four months to give a reply to his letter on the issue, which proved that Asom was not interested in solving the issue.
The chief minister also reiterated the stand of his government that the Subansiri Lower Project would be located on Arunachal's land and water resources too belong to the state.
