ND: Amtek, VCST to set up a manufacturing unit

New Delhi, Mar 30: Component manufacturer Amtek Auto today formed an equal joint venture with Belgium-based VCST Industrial Products bvba to set up a manufacturing unit for powertrain components near Pune.

The JV will primarily focus on the manufacture of gears and shafts for automotive on- and off-road applications.

The manufacturing unit will be set-up near the company's existing manufacturing plants in Sanaswadi near Pune with initial installed capacity of about 1.5 million components for exports only.

It is scheduled to start shipping out finished parts by February 2008.

VCST is a leading designer and supplier of engine, driveline and technology components and manufactures engine and transmission gears, transmission shafts for automotive applications and fully finished brake components.

''The combination of the company and VCST will bring an integrated value chain and advanced machining technology necessary to compete in today's automotive market,'' Amtek Auto said in a statement.
