Two women convicted, five others acquitted in fake currency case

Mumbai, Mar 29 (UNI) A fast track court here today convicted two women of a seven-member family and handed down three years rigorous imprisonment to them for circulating fake currency notes in the market.

The court aquitted the remaining for want of evidence and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the convict.

The court at Sewri held the Taslim Nasiruddin Sheikh and Bina Tahiruddin Sheikh guilty of circulating fake currency while other members Nasiruddin Sheikh, Tahiruddin Sheikh (husbands of accused the), Rahiruddin Sheikh, Samsuddin Sheikh, Farauddin Sheikh were acquitted.

According to the prosecution, on January 22, 2005, the accused Taslim went to the Nagpada market for buying vegetables, where she gave Rs 50 to the vendor. The vendor complained that the note was fake and demanded another note, which resulted in a quarrel.

The patrolling police then intervened and found that the accused and her family members were involved in making fake currency notes with the help of a computer. The police had seized fake currency notes worth Rs 8,900 from their posession.
