New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) Contrary to the opposition from the people to setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) at Nandigram in West Bengal, their Haryana counterparts see it as an instrument of rapid development.

About 47 per cent of people in Haryana feel that SEZs will generate employment and another 29 per cent hold them as ''necessary for industrial progress'' in that state.

This is part of the findings of a survey conducted by the Central India News Service in Haryana to study the performance of the Hooda government in the past two years.

However, 15 per cent of respondents in Haryana, feel that SEZs were ''a method of grabbing land by big corporate houses''.

More than seventy per cent people of the state were of the view that the Hooda government was safeguarding the interests of the farmers while acquiring land, while 14 per cent were against the view.

The survey was conducted in 123 cities, towns and villages spread across 48 assembly segments in Haryana between March 15-25.

It rated very high the performance of the Congress government in Haryana, particularly in the field of development in rural areas, industrial growth, employment generation and welfare measures.

Justifying the recent expulsion of Mr Kuldeep Bishnoi, son of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, from the party for anti-party activities, the people, admitted that there was some internal problem which had been plaguing the Congress party as well as the government.
