Over 1.28 lakh foeticides in Kerala in five years: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 29 (UNI) As many as 1,28,525 foeticides have been reported in Kerala during the past five years, the State Assembly was informed today.
In a written reply, Health Minister P K Sreemathy, however, said there were no reports regarding the increasing number of female foeticides in the state.
Surprise inspections were being carried out in all scan centres in the state to prevent selective foeticides.
Registration was made compulsory for all the scan centres in the state as to prevent female foeticides, she added.
As per the available data, a maximum of 33,733 foeticides were reported in 2002-03, followed by 29,204, 27,918 and 23,474 in the next three years respectively. During 2006-07 (up to January), as many as 14,233 cases were reported.
