Nagaland gets Women Commission
Kohima, Mar 29 (UNI) Governor K Sankaranarayanan has said that women in the state should take an active part in reforming society and added that there should be a female candidate in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
Inaugurating the first ever Women Commission in Nagaland here yesterday, the Governor said with the launch of the Women Commission in the state, it can do a lot for both the women and men.
He urged the Commission to look into the rural areas as well.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio acknowledged the valuable contribution of the Naga women leaders in many fields and apologized for the delay in constituting the Commission.
Mrs Banuo Z Jamir, Principal Secretary(Home), in her speech said the launch was a milestone in the history of women in Nagaland, which speaks of the determination, resolve and above all patience of women in attaining this.
Mr D K Bhalla, Commissioner and Secretary, in his keynote address, said the need for a statutory body in Nagaland was long felt to investigate and examine all matters relating to the safeguards provided for women in Nagaland. He hoped that all Naga women would take advantage of the Commission, not only to redress their grievances, but also to add to their opportunities and to establish their rights.
