Doctors resignation uncalled for, says IGMC Principal
Shimla, Mar 29 (UNI) Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) Principal Surinder Kashyap today appealed to the striking resident doctors in the state to resume their duties and said their resignation was uncalled for.
Addressing mediapersons here, he said the doctors had resigned en masse in the afternoon after a meeting of Resident Doctors Association (RDA) members in the morning and without giving any notice.
Terming the resignation as a ''blackmail tactic,'' Dr Kashyap said their demand for hiking the stipend at par with the doctors of the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana was unjustified.
The state government had already announced 20 per cent hike in their stipend and any further increase was not possible, he said.
Besides, if the stipend offered to the resident doctors in other states was high, the government there was also charging a higher fee as well, he added.
While the Punjab government was charging Rs 24,000 tuition fee, Himachal was only charging Rs 12,000, the IGMC Principal said, adding that comparisons on single parameter alone were wrong.
