DMK allies call for bandh on Mar 31 against SC verdict
Chennai, Mar 29 (UNI) The ruling DMK and its allies tonight called for a 12-hour bandh on March 31 to express Tamil Nadu's disappointment over the Supreme Court's (SC) order, staying 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher education institutions.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at an emergency meeting called by DMK-led DPA and chaired by Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi here.
Later, talking to reporters, Mr Karunanidhi urged all other political parties, including AIADMK, MDMK and DMDK to join the bandh and extent support.
The meeting also urged the Centre to immediately convene a joint session of both Houses of Parliament to discuss the implications of the SC order and find ways to overcome the impact.
Mr Karunanidhi said Tamil Nadu would ask the Centre to suspend air and rail traffic from six hours to 1800 hrs on March 31.
