ASUTOP urges Govt to safeguard small industries

Puducherry, Mar 29 (UNI) The Association of Small Industries of the Union Territory of Pondicherry (ASUTOP) today urged the administration to incorporate suitable measures in the VAT legislation to eliminate or mitigate the impending dangers like continuing of CST, in coming consignment transfer tax and other related taxes.

Congratulating Chief Minister N Rangasamy for presenting a balanced budget for the year 2007-08, ASUTOP Secretary K Parthasarathi said Mr Rangasamy had not imposed any new tax and largely maintained status-quo.

For the survival of the units engaged in inter-state trade, it was imperative for the government to devise an appropriate measures to safeguard the interests of the small industries.

He said some of the long term policy initiatives mentioned in the budget would have a positive impact on the industries.
