Pandemonium in Orissa Assembly on shifting of WODC headquarter
Bhubaneswar, Mar 28 (UNI) Pandemonium prevailed in Orissa Assembly as Congress Deputy Leader Narashingha Mishra led a dharna inside the well of the Assembly, demanding shifting of the headquarters of Western Orissa Development Council(WODC) office.
As the Opposition members sat on dharna disrupting the business of the House, Deputy Speaker Prahallad Dora adjourned the House for 15 minutes on the request of government Chief whip Kishore Kumar Mohanty.
He then adjourned the House thrice for a period of one hour to find an amicable solution to resolve the issue and resume the business of the House.
Finding no solution to restore normalcy in the House, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the House till 1617 hours after rejecting the admissibility of an adjournment motion brought by the Opposition on the shifting of the WODC and nomination of the members to the Council.
The opposition Congress, however, decided that they would continue to sit on dharna inside the well till the Planning and Co-ordination Minister Padmanav Behera announced the shifting of the WODC office from Bhubaneswar to Western Orissa.
Earlier, participating in the debate, Congress Deputy leader Narashingha Mishra said the state government had betrayed the people of western Orissa by not nominating eleven MLAs and two Parliament Members to the Council for the last three years.
