JK to have longest bridge soon

Srinagar, Mar 28 (UNI) The longest bridge in Jammu and Kashmir will soon be constructed in Anantnag district.

The work on the construction of three-km-long bridge over Brangi river near Soaf Shali in Anantnag district would start soon.

The bridge, to be constructed at a cost of Rs 17 crore, would connect dozens of villages in Kokernag area in the district.

Education, Haj and Auquaf Minister Peerzada Moahmmed Sayeed told this to a public gathering at Kokernag.

The state government was considering to open a degree college at Kokernag as students have to trek hilly terrain and cover long distance for receiving higher education, he said.

For the purpose, Mr Sayeed said the land was being identified and the Centre's approval has already been received.

The Kokernag Sub-District Hospital was under construction at a cost of Rs four crore, the Minister said.

The work on Kishtwar-Simthan road would soon start which would connect Kishtwar with the valley, he added.

About the unemployment problem, Mr Sayeed said the Industrial complex, spread over an area of 100 kanals (five hectares) of land would be established at Brang. Another 106 anganwari centres were also being opened in the area, he added.

The Minster also gave away cheques amounting to Rs 23.50 lakh under the Indira Awas Yojana to 197 beneficiaries of Kokernag for construction of housing units.
