House adjourned over Babli issue
Hyderabad, Mar 28 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned thrice today as the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) stalled the proceedings over the 'illegal' construction of Babli and 11 other projects by Maharashtra.
When the House reassembled after an abrupt adjournment during Zero Hour over the issue, TDP members were on their feet demanding a discussion on the issue.
Despite pleas by Speaker K R Suresh Reddy and Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah, TDP members rushed to the well of the House and staged a sit-in protest over the issue.
Amidst the din, the Speaker put forward a voice vote bill to amend the Andhra Pradesh Official Languages Act to make Urdu the Official Language in Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts.
The Speaker adjourned the House for ten minutes even as the TDP members remained in the well of the House and shouted slogans against the Government.
Earlier, the House was adjourned during Zero Hour and Question Hour after Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy alleged that the Opposition was politicising the sensitive riparian issue and indulging in mud-slinging, unlike in other states where members cutting across party lines were united in protecting their state's interests.
