Gujarat speaker approaches Pak government for fishermen release

Gandhinagar, Mar 28 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Speaker Mangaldas Patel for approaching the Pakistan government to release fishermen languishing in Pakistani jails for the past couple of years.

Mr Modi, while announcing the Speaker's special initiative in the state Assembly, said the Speaker, in his recent visit to the neighbouring country, had put forward his request to the Pakistan government for the release of fishermen along with their boats and other items seized from the arrested fishermen.

Later the entire members of the house joined the Chief Minister to congratulate the Speaker for his approach for the release of fishermen's from Pak Jail.

About 400 fishermen from Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, were arrested from the Arabian Sea's Jakhau area are presently languishing in the Pakistani jails.
