Guj Govt's Urban Poor Scheme of Rs 13,000 cr is eye-wash: Modhwadia
Gandhinagar, Mar 28 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Arjun Modhwadia termed the ruling BJP government's Rs 13,000 crore 'Garib Samrudhdhi Yojna' (GSY), announced today, for 50 lakh urban poor in the state, ''jugglary of accountancy''.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Modhwadia alleged that the GSY was nothing but an eye-wash in the wake of election year, as no specific allocation of fund had been made in the proposed state budget for next financial year.
He further alleged that several schemes, made for poor, had been merged into one and given new names to mislead the people to secure vote banks.
Defending his allegations, the Congress leader said no specific allocation was made for the GSY in state budget, exposng Chief Minister Narendra Modi's malign intentions in declaring the scheme.
Earlier, raising the point of order on the floor of the House, Mr Modhwadia alleged that Mr Modi was misleading the House by declaring the scheme for poor which has neither allocation of fund nor mention in the state budget for year 2007-08.
However, Speaker Mangaldas Patel dismissed the point of order, stating that the announcement was made with permission of chair under rule 44 of assembly which grants no permission for debate on the issue in the House.
Meanwhile, Gujarat BJP president Purshottam Rupala welcomed the scheme and said it would help the below poverty line families to uplift their livings.
He stated that the Modi Government needs special congratulations for its ''care and concerned'' for the last man of the society.
