Delivery of justice is worship: JK Chief Justice

Srinagar, Mar 28: Terming the delivery of quick justice to the people as a form of worship, the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Mr Justice Bashir Ahmad Khan said that members of the judiciary should adopt a sympathetic and affectionate attitude towards the people approaching them for justice.

Emphasizing the need for timely and speedy dispensation of justice to the people he said that it should be obligatory for all the members of the judiciary to see that justice seekers do not suffer at their hands.

Addressing a farewell function organised by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Staff Welfare Association in his honour on his retirement on April Ist 2007 at High Court Complex here Justice Khan said that judges, judicial officers and staff members of the judiciary have to collectively strive to brighten the image of the institution.

Expressing gratitude to the members of the judiciary for their active support and cooperation, Justice Khan said that at no moment of time should we allow the lethargic attitude to affect our working.

Earlier, President of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Staff Welfare Association Bashir Ahmad Mir said that Justice Khan during his tenure as Chief Justice initiated several revolutionary measures to rejuvenate and modernize the judicial system in the state.

His landmark judgments with regard to admission for MBBS courses ban on manufacture and sale of polythene and removing encroachments from the Dal lake have proven to be torch bearers in the judicial system, Mr Mir said.
