Court adjourns defamation case on Jaya to June 29

Chennai, Mar 28 (UNI) A Sessions Court today adjourned to June 29, further hearing of the defamation case filed by the Tamil Nadu Government against former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, for her alleged defamatory remarks against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi over the erection of MGR statue in Parliament.

Principal Sessions Judge V Periyakaruppiah, adjourned to June 29, further hearing of the defamation complaint filed by City Public Prosecutor M Shajahan, on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government, following a plea from Advocate S Venkatesh, appearing for Ms Jayalalithaa to adjourn the hearing by two months.

The judge had earlier after taking the complaint on file, ordered issuance of summons to Ms Jayalalithaa for her appearance before the Court today.

Meanwhile, Ms Jayalalithaa moved the Madras High Court, challenging the defamation proceedings and the High Court had dispensed with her personal appearance before the court. The interim order was subsequently extended until further order.
