CCIB to launch wildcat agitation in Meghalaya
Shillong, Mar 28(UNI) The Co-ordination Committee on International Border(CCIB) has decided to launch a wildcat agitation in Meghalaya in view of the state government's decision to provide full-proof security to the National Building Construction Corporation(NBCC) workers engaged in Indo-Bangla border fencing.
The CCIB, a conglomeration of five organisations took this decision at a meeting held here today reviewing the aftermath of the 72-hour 'quit notice' to the NBCC workers which ended here today.
''We will launch a surprise agitation as the government decided to provide security to NBCC workers in the state,'' CCIB spokesman G H Kharshanlor told UNI here.
''The quit notice was issued to NBCC last week after they violated the government's notification which directed them to suspend fencing work in all the disputed areas between Nongjri in East Khasi Hills and Jaliakhola in Jaintia Hills,'' Mr Kharshanlor said.
Earlier, BSF Inspector General in-charge of Asom-Meghalaya frontier, P K Mishra said security had been provided to all the NBCC workers in view of the 'quit notice' served by the CCIB.
Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Frederick Roy Kharkongor said the state police would provide security to the NBCC office and its workers, once they leave the border.
The NBCC has relocated its office from state's Jowai district, headquarters of Jaintia Hills, to Silchar in neighbouring Cachar district of Asom a month before the CCIB's ''quit notice''.
