Arunachal Pradesh Assembly lauded by Manipur organisation
Imphal, Mar 28 (UNI) Arunachal Citizens Rights and Centre of Organisation Research Education (CORE) here lauded the members of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly for passing a private members resolution to withdraw the 'disturbed area' notification under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958.
The Act came into effect in the state in September 1991.
The two organisations, in a joint statement, termed the decision as a historic example for the rest of India in restoring the true democracy of the people.
They also thanked Arunachal government for respecting the peoples needs.
The statement noted that the Act's 1972 amendment has been encroaching upon the internal affairs of the state, and supersedes the sovereign and plenary power of the state regarding the internal affairs of the state such as law and order.
The Act also contravenes international human rights law and has led to gross and systematic violation of indigenous peoples rights, it further stated.
