Abolition of MC discretionary power a priority : Kalia

Phagwara, Mar 28 (UNI) Punjab Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia today said the abolition of discretionary powers for local bodies was the need of the hour and he will working on priority on this agenda.

Talking to UNI here, Mr Kalia said he was concerned over the deteriorating situation in several Muncipal Corporations and Muncipal committees adding that discretionary Powers in Local bodies had become a ''curse, as several officials were misusing it for discrimination against the commonman''.

To improve the matters, he will ensure that all Muncipal Corporations and Muncipal Committees worked in completely transparent and accountable manner, Mr Kalia said.

The elections to Muncipal Corporations would be conducted by June this year, he said.
