883 candidates in fray for Phase II of UP poll
Lucknow, Mar 28 (UNI) Altogether 883 candidates are in the fray for the 58 assembly seats going to poll in the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections on April 13.
On the last date of withdrawal today, 60 candidates withdrew their candidature.
A total of 990 candidates had filed nominations in the second phase, with papers of 47 rejected during scrutiny and 60 withdrew from contest.
For phase III, altogether 241 candidates filed their nominations today and now a total of 370 people are in the fray for 57 seats where polling is scheduled for April 18. Candidates can submit their nominations till March 30 in the third phase while scrutiny of the papers would be done on April 2. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till April 4.
Prominent among those who filed their nominations today in the third phase of elections are chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav (Gunnaur), BJP legislators Ram Prakash Tripathi(Chibramau) and Vinod Tiwari(Puranpur).
Poll process for phase IV started today with the issuance of notification in 57 assembly seats where polling would be held on April 23.
On the first day of nominations in the fourth phase, a total of 45 candidates filed their papers. Last date for filing of nominations for this phase is April 4 and scrutiny would be done on the next day. Candidates can withdraw their papers till April 7.
Prominent among those who filed their nominations in the fourth phase are minister Wakar Ahmed Shah(Bahraich)and state Assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey(Etwa).
In phase I where poll would be held on April 7, altogether 848 candidates are in the fray.
