TN: RNU of AIR bags Akashwani Annual Award-2006
Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Mar 27: The Regional News Unit (RNU) of All India Radio (AIR), Tiruchirapalli has won the prestigious 'Akashvani Annual Award-2006' for the best RNU in the country.
In a press release here, AIR Tiruchirapalli RNU Head, K Ampady, said the award was given based on the special programmes produced during the year - innovations introduced in news bulletins and current affairs programme, improvement in infrastructure and extension of existing services.
Dr Ampady said out of 44 regional news units all over India, four of them - Ranchi, Mumbai, Dibrugarh and Tiruchirapalli were short listed initially. ''The RNU, here had been finally selected based on the special programmes broadcasted during Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, like 'Therthal Kalam' (Election field) and aslo due to the various activities undertaken by the RNU to improve the quality of production and broadcasting of news making'', he added.
RNU Tiruchirapalli was one of the first RNUs to make the entire news making computerised. It had also successfully started eight additional two minute news headlines in FM Rainbow Channel, titled 'Seidhi Surukkam' during the last year.
The award would be given during the Akashvani Annual Award function to be held in Jammu next month, he added.
