Police recover huge quantity of illicit liquor

Port Blair, March 27 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Police has recovered a huge quantity of illicit liquor and arrested two persons in this connection from Rangachang, a remote village in Andaman district today.

''On becoming suspicious about the movement of a jeep, a police team patrolling the area intercepted and found 800 bottles of illicit liquor concealed in eight truck tyre tubes,'' Superintendent of Police of Andaman District Ashok Chand told UNI today.

In this connection, the police team arrested the driver S.

Kathirvel and his associate K Murugan.

''On further interrogation regarding the source of transportation, they disclosed the name of one M Laxmanan.

The police team immediately conducted another excise raid in the Burma Nallah jungle and found 190 bottles of illicit liquor filled in one truck tyre tube and three plastic jerricans with 'Bhatti' articles which were then seized and M.Laxmanan arrested,'' Mr Chand added.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police have presently intensified its raids against illicit liquor trade and drug peddlers.
