K'taka Council passes Appropriation Bill 2007
Bangalore, Mar 27 (UNI) The Karnataka Legislative Council today passed by voice vote the Karnataka Appropriation Bill 2007, approved by the Assembly yesterday, for a sum of Rs 5,984 crore after a brief discussion.
Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa presented the Bill, aimed at authorising payment and appropriation of Rs 5,984 crore out of the consolidated fund of the State for the financial year 2006-07 and appealed to the House to pass it.
Initiating debate on the Bill, Leader of the Opposition in the House H K Patil criticised that only Rs 500 crore had been earmarked to pay cooperative institutions with regard to the farm loan waiver scheme, even though the burden would be more than Rs 2,000 crore.
He suggested constitution of a monitoring committee to oversee the effective implementation of the budgetary proposals.
Dr M P Nada Gouda, Basavaraj Bommai (both JD-U), Srikante Gowda (JD-S), V S Ugrappa, Prakash Rathod, Dr L Hanumanthaiah (all Congress) also spoke on the issue.
