J K police arrest 27 drug peddlers

Srinagar, Mar 27 (UNI) As part of their continued drive against narcotics and poppy cultivation in the Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have arrested 27 people involved in drug trafficking from Pulwama district.

Police have also registered 25 cases, seized 5,697 kg of cannabis and destroyed the poppy crop spread over 3,650 kanals (182,5 hectares) of land in the Pulwama district.

Giving details, Superintendent of Police, Pulwama Nitish Kumar said during the drive it had been found that Litter, Wachi, Yadder Wahipora, Rajpora Melhaura, Safnagri, Zahidbagh, Brawbandina, Nownagri, Naina Batpora, Khallan and Gund Mussa were the worst-affected areas in terms of poppy cultivation and drug trafficking.

Mr Kumar said two trucks, a TATA mobile mini-truck, a TATA 407, a Maruti Van, one motorcycle and four grinding machines were also seized during raids at different places in the district.
