'Life unbearable for common man under UPA regime'
New
Delhi,
Mar
25:
The
RSS
has
expressed
its
disappointment
over
the
performance
of
the
UPA
government
during
the
last
three
years,
saying
life
for
the
common
man
was
'unbearable'
irrespective
of
whether
the
Prime
Minister
was
a
member
of
the
'Nehru
family
or
a
family
minion'.
'Organiser',
the
RSS
mouthpiece
in
its
editorial
column
said
the
talk
of
'scaling
back
the
growth'
by
Planning
Commission
Deputy
Chairman
three
years
after
the
UPA
government
promised
a
double
digit
growth
was
indeed
a
face-to-face
with
reality.
It
was
a
'crude
admission'
that
the
UPA
had
sqaundered
away
the
benefits
of
inheriting
a
strong
and
vibrant
economy
three
years
ago.
Two
of
the
top
planners
had
spoken
of
'overheating'
of
the
economy
and
its
impact
on
spiralling
prices.
Homes
for
middle
class
was
proving
to
be
a
'nightmare'
with
the
galloping
interests
on
housing
loans
turning
to
be
a
perpetual
debt
trap.
With
three
years
of
economic
mismanagement,
pilferage
and
sloganeering
behind
the
UPA,
there
were
clear
indications
that
the
UPA's
fiscal
and
monetary
managements
were
in
a
mess,
the
magazine
wrote.
The
government
had
to
roll-back
taxes
on
cement,
service
taxes
indiscriminately
levied
by
the
government
on
almost
all
human
activities
adding
to
the
chaos.
The
government,
has
no
clue
as
to
why
the
life
had
become
unbearable
for
the
common
man.
"He
(common
man)
is
not
bothered
if
a
member
of
Nehru
family
or
family
minion
is
holding
the
PM's
job," the
RSS
mouthpiece
made
a
caustic
remark.
UPA,
the
RSS
said,
was
immensely
benefitted
by
the
strong
economic
fundamentals
left
by
the
NDA
where
the
prices
were
under
control,
burgeoning
food
stocks
and
a
declining
poverty
line.
Now
the
country
was
saddled
with
a
6.5
per
cent
inflation.
While
Finance
Minister
P
Chidambaram
was
justifying
high
inflation
as
'inevitable'
in
a
growing
economy,
the
Planning
Commission
Deputy
Chairman
Montek
Singh
Ahluwalia
was
cautioning
that
India
had
no
choice
but
to
'slow
down'
the
GDP
growth
to
combat
inflation.
Decrying
the
UPA
dumping
of
NDA's
several
infrastructural
projects
like
river
linking,
golden
quadrilateral
and
labour
intensive
rural
roads,
the
paper
noted
the
Manmonah
Singh
regime
had
no
vision
or
time
to
pursue
them.
For
three
years
the
UPA
tom-tommed
the
high
growth
story
as
its
singlemost
achievement
but
now
economic
failure
and
disaster
on
the
price
and
supply
side
were
'excruciating
highlights'
of
Manmohan's
regime,
'Organiser'
observed.
