Vizag Mayor urges for release of fund for BRTS project
Visakhapatnam, Mar 22 (UNI) The greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Mayor P Janardhan Rao today urged the Centre to release long pending clearance of Rs 450 crore Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project immediately.
Addressing mediapersons here, he said the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had mooted private partcipation in various development schemes for the integral development of the city.
Mr Rao while attending two-day national seminar on Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) session, submitted a memorandum on development of the city to the Prime Minister.
He also met the Union Ministers and appealed to Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, Union Ministers for state Mines T Subbiramireddy and Union Housing and Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selija to give necessary help for overall development of the city.
He said the Centre had agreed to release fund of Rs 192 crore as part of the JNNURM, to provide drinking water, road and streetlights in the newly merged 34 villages Gangavaram, Madurawada, Gajuwaka and Pendurithy zones. The funds would be released by the end of April.
