Police station attacked, three policemen injured

Malappuram, Kerala, Mar 22 (UNI) Three policemen, including an officer, were injured when suspected activists of the Kerala-based Muslim outfit National Development Front (NDF) attacked Kottakkal police station in the district last night police said today.

Malappuram Superintendent of Police Tarun Kumar told UNI that three police personnel, including Circle Inspector Mohana Chadran, sustained injuries when a group of suspected NDF activists pelted stones at the station around 2330 hours.

He said the activists were demanding the release of NDF leaders, K Abdul Rehman and Baqafi A Sayeed, who was taken into custody for questioning in connection with the murder of a RSS sympathiser, a few days ago.

As many as 23 activists were taken into custody in connection with the case, he said adding some lethal weapons were also sezied from their possession.

Tension prevailed in certain areas in the district, following the assassination of RSS sympathiser, Kaiparambil Lakshmanan (47), by unidentified assailants at Othukkungal on March 16.
