Geelani not seroius, undergoing test
Mumbai, Mar 22 (UNI) Condition of hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was not serious but he was undergoing certain tests in the city's Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, where he has been admitted following deterioration in his health due to a kidney malignancy.
S H Jaffari, Sr Public Relation Officer said that Mr Geelani had undergone a CT Scan, various blood tests for his chronic kidney cancer. Dr Hemant Tondgaonkar, head of the GOG department, had suggested him various medicines and he is under constant monitoring since yesterday.
Hospital sources said, ''Nothing could be said as of now till we get his final medical reports, which are expected in two days.'' He is accompanied by his son Naseem and his daughter has flown in from Saudi this morning. The rest of the family members were also present in the hospital but declined to speak to the media.
Geelani, who is suffering from chronic kidney cancer, has been advised to go abroad for treatment which is not available in the country. He and his son has applied for a US visa but has not yet got clearance from the US State Department.
Geelani's left damaged kidney was removed in 2003 in the same hospital. He is also suffering from a heart condition. He was earlier admitted to Delhi's Appollo hospital which had diagnosed a malignancy in his only kidney.
The doctors have repeatedly suggested his treatment abroad, saying it is difficult to operate upon him here in this condition.
Meanwhile, an officer of the Special branch of the Mumbai Police has been deputed for his security.
