New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) The Delhi Government today informed the Delhi High Court that it would fill all vacancies in the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Rohini in West Delhi within three weeks to facilitate quick investigation of criminal cases in the Capital.

Delhi Principal Home Secretary O P Kelkar appearing before a bench of Justices T S Thakur and S N Agrawal said the state government was initiating steps to fill about 45 vacancies in the laboratory in three weeks.

During the hearing on March 20, the Delhi Government Counsel had submitted that the FSL of the state Government at Rohini did not have sufficient staff.

The Counsel said it was trying to procure staff on deputation from other departments. But the court said, ''How could other departments release their staff, when there is scarcity everywhere?'' The Central and state governments should fill up the vacancies in the FSLs all over the country for a thorough investigation of criminal cases, the court said.

''Let's fill the vacancies first, then we will take care of infrastructure and additional facilities,'' the court observed.

The High Court had earlier directed the Union and state governments to augment the facilities and to provide sufficient staff at the FSL at Rohini in West Delhi and Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) at Kolkota, Hyderabad, Chandigarh besides other places.
